April 2020 News & Events | On Navigating the Rapids of Time

Something happened last month. Something momentous, invigorating, teeming with lush fervor. It's all around us: blossoming in the trees, buzzing in the flowers, chirping cheerful morning melodies as the coffee brews, contrasting the grim scroll of the daily news. Our planet's axial tilt has caused another miracle, punctually and prophetically bringing us growth and fertile freedom when we most desperately need it. The flowers are not fragrant for themselves; the river does not wind lazily to kill time; we are here, now, and Spring is all around us. Let us share this gift we've been gifted and get grooving!

They say video killed the radio star, but the folks at the NPR Tiny Desk Contest are proving otherwise. Our most recent pizza-fueled collaboration with local entrepreneur Justin Deedon has produced our submission to the monumental American radio contest: a live video of our original song "Suspicious" performed at the Resonance Performance Space (more on that later). For now, check out the video, and don't forget to drink your Ovaltine!

It's time to vote! No, I'm not talking about politics (though that's probably a good idea..). I'm talking about the International Singer Songwriter Association's 2020 Awards! We've been nominated for FOUR categories: USA Entertainer of the Year; USA Band of the Year; USA Album of the Year; and USA Band Single of the Year. We need your votes! Each person can vote once a day, every day, all the way 'till May! (A vote a day keeps the doctor away). There's an old saying in show biz: "The show must go on." We've come to believe that this statement is less a figure of speech and more a law of physics: there is no stopping the flow of creative energy! After a few alcohol-infused brainstorming sessions, we've discovered a way to put on a show while coloring inside these new legal lines. This Easter Sunday April 12th at 7pm Pacific Time, the Resonance Performance Space will be hosting a multi-ensemble rock 'n'roll live stream show! Four bands in Four different rooms of the historic Odd Fellows building will rock your slippers off while simultaneously avoiding human contact, proving that the show really MUST go on! This Easter, pour yourself a bourbon (or wine), curl up with your computer, strap on your slippers, and blast off into the Astral Plane with Neil Johnson, Hecktic Week, New Age Phonograph, and Widespread Haze.

There is something about live music that never quite makes it through the recording process. Maybe it’s the raw excitement of the crowd, or the uncertainty of the performers as they reach into unexplored territory. Whatever it is, we miss it. But, this time away has allowed us to explore inwards instead of outwards, discovering, refining, and challenging ourselves in a different way. In lieu of live performances, we want to share a different perspective. We will be uploading a few recordings from our rehearsals to our SoundCloud page each week! New ideas, unfamiliar jams, a-tonal explorations, and bad jokes that were once kept hidden will now be accessible through the worldwide web! Don't say we didn't warn you!

These are strange and unfamiliar times. It is easy to feel overwhelmed as the currents of worry roar across the rocky rapids. We must not get swept into the undertow of our own creation. Let music be your life-jacket as we ride across the white water. Let the words on the horizon guide your focus away from the danger below. Let the new growth along the sandy bank remind you to dance, dream, love, and live. And may the Springtime lead us all to calmer waters.

’Till then-
