January 2020 News & Events
We've reached a new year - a new decade - a numerical opportunity to start over - a clean slate and milestone on the winding road of life. Where have we been? Where are we going? What will we do there? What have we done? Another circle around the sun. We are one step closer to becoming who and what we will become.
New Year's Eve was the cat's meow! New Age Phonograph started the night off swingin', and the Original Doozies doubled down and dirty on the back beat of 2019. An astonishing amount of sheiks and shebas dressed in their spiffiest rags, giving Gatsby a run for his [potentially illegitimate] money. The ball dropped into a cacophony of blaring kazoos, and for a brief moment the vibrations of a hundred years echoed across the horizon. And the Centaur looked ahead...
...to January 17th! Our first official gig of 2020 is in Portland! (Don't worry we're not selling out, just spreading the Haze wide..r). On Friday January 17th we will share the stage at Eastside Bar and Grill with acoustic soul duo The Juhalas. Come dig our big city debut!
Small towns have their charms and their limitations, so we are very excited for this rare opportunity to announce that we will be playing at a BRAND NEW BAR IN ROSEBURG! On January 25th, Grifter's has invited us to roll in and rock their joint! If you don't know yet, Grifter's is an awesomely vibey beer-and-wine bar and venue with burnt-orange walls, board-games, and a friendly curious rock 'n' roll kitten. It's located behind the 420 Club on Stephens St, and it is your new favorite bar. We'll see you there!
As we approach February 1st, you may ask yourself... "Who is Frank Ellis?" A quick Google search reveals an American film actor, a handful of obituaries, and an Australian soccer player... no musicians. Yet on February 1st Widespread Haze will be playing with Ashland indie-rockers, The Music of Frank Ellis, at North Forty Brewery in Downtown Roseburg. Perhaps the Mandela Effect caused a famous composer to fall through the cracks of space-time; maybe the soccer player had an indie-rock alter-ego; or maybe they just dig the name. One thing is for sure: The music of Frank Ellis kick(s?) serious ass. But don't take our word for it- join us!
As we venture into this strange new decade with whimsical hopes and unyielding resolve, we take a moment to quantify our goals and adjust our shortcomings. The New Year's Resolution sells more gym memberships and salad dressing than St. Valentine sells roses and chocolates, and the tradition is not lost on us! In 2020, Scotty resolves to get the hell out of the hospital and kick cancer's ass! Kristi intends to rip epic solos on both bass and guitar by 2021. Tommy plans to teach more music students, and to curate the perfect collection of rugs to best resonate with each band member's aura. Matthew wants to fear for his life at least once in 2020 (don't get any ideas!), and Wayne resolves to expunge the gifted debt from his ex-husband, and to help make the band super successful! Collectively, and with your help, Widespread Haze intends to release a full-length album in 2020, keep rock 'n' roll fresh and funky, and spread the good vibes across the world wide.
Till next time!
