February 2020 | In memory of Scotty Rifenbark
Change: the inevitable constant. The unwavering law of life and otherwise: twisting, surprising, enlightening, devastating; illuminating the fleeting nature of existence with flickering shadows from a dancing flame. Reminding us of the vast ocean of possibility dripping from our leaky faucets of perspective. To everything, there is a season. Turn, turn, turn.
And all our turns eventually lead to an end. But what is an end but a turn we cannot turn back from? Scotty made that turn. Scotty Rifenbark: the man, the son, the husband, the father, the brother, the uncle, the football coach, the computer engineer, the technical-writing pioneer, the Belizean restaurant owner, the undiscovered comic illustrator, the unconditional friend, the patient teacher, the eager student of life, the endlessly humble role-model, and the best damn guitar player in the world wide. Sometimes there's a man. Sometimes, there's a man. That man is Scott Rifenbark. His body passed away on January 29th, but he will be with us forever in so many ways. Scotty's Celebration of Life will be held at the Downtown Roseburg Elk's Lodge on February 29th, 2020. We will share music, stories, memories, food, drinks, and good vibes in his name. Rock on Scotty, we'll do the same for you. Find the information online at: https://everloved.com/life-of/scott-rifenbark
Seasons change, and time turns grapes to wine. Wine turns melancholy to music, and music turns the world 'round (it seems The Byrds were on to something.) This Friday February 7th we'll be back at Saginaw Vineyard's Friday Night Live! Join us at our favorite little red barn house for three hours of music and WINE-O! The Widespread Haze trio is bringing new original songs and some new sonic-enhancing technicolor toys for your aural pleasure. We'll see you there!
Change changes us. Scotty's passing reminds us that we will not be here forever individually. Sometimes we don't have more time. The time is now. Right now. No more waiting around or weighing pros and cons, procrastinating our purpose or regretting what we've done. The time is now: for whatever it is time for is already overdue! Scotty never missed an opportunity to make the world a brighter place. Let us pay that gift forward, adapt to the changes, and live.
